In a surprising move, basketball legend Michael Jordan is stepping into the broadcasting arena. NBC Sports announced on May 12, 2025, that Jordan will serve as a “special contributor” for their NBA coverage starting with the 2025–26 season .

This marks Jordan’s first foray into NBA commentary, adding to his illustrious career that includes six NBA championships and five MVP awards . His role will coincide with NBC’s return to NBA broadcasting after a 23-year hiatus, under a new 11-year media rights agreement

Jordan expressed enthusiasm about the new role, stating, “I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC. The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project”

While specific details of his contributions are yet to be disclosed, Jordan will join a broadcast team featuring play-by-play announcers Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle, analysts Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller, and studio analysts Carmelo Anthony and Vince Carter .

NBC’s NBA coverage will include exclusive Monday night games on Peacock, regional doubleheaders on Tuesday nights, and the introduction of “Sunday Night Basketball” in 2026
