The Bahamas Welcomes Daily Flights from Chicago with Celebration in the Windy City
The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation (BMOTIA), led by Director General Latia Duncombe, celebrated an exciting new chapter in Chicago-Bahamas travel at a special event held at Carnivale Restaurant in Chicago. Starting December 5, 2024, American Airlines will launch daily service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), offering Chicagoans more opportunities to escape the cold for the warm, sunny beaches of The Bahamas.
The celebratory evening featured Bahamian culture at its finest. Attendees enjoyed exquisite cuisine prepared by Carnivale’s renowned chefs and signature cocktails created by acclaimed Bahamian mixologist Marvelous Marv Cunningham, including a standout Coconut Soursop Mint Smash. The festivities concluded with an immersive Junkanoo performance, providing guests a taste of The Bahamas’ vibrant culture.
Director General Duncombe emphasized Chicago’s historical ties to The Bahamas, praising the city’s role as a key gateway for Midwest travelers. “With American Airlines’ new flight expansion, we look forward to welcoming even more Chicagoans to experience the wonders of The Bahamas,” she remarked.
American Airlines, which announced broader expansions to its winter schedule earlier this year, is set to operate over 2,350 peak weekly flights to Latin America and the Caribbean, cementing its role as a leader in U.S.-Caribbean travel. In 2023, The Bahamas welcomed nearly 30,000 visitors from Chicago, a number expected to grow with this new daily service.
Adding to the excitement, Carnivale Restaurant’s owner, William Marovitz, announced the upcoming opening of a new venture, Carnivale on Paradise Island, set to debut next month at Hurricane Hole Superyacht Marina. The restaurant will blend Latin American and Bahamian culinary traditions in a dynamic new dining experience.
