Juneteenth, often called America’s second Independence Day, is a time of celebration, reflection, and unity. In Columbus, a vibrant series of events brings people together to honor Black history, culture, and resilience. Here’s a guide to some of the most engaging local gatherings.
Thursday, June 19 — Juneteenth Jubilee Day Festival
When: 12–4 p.m.
Where: Ohio History Center, 800 E. 17th Ave.
Bring the whole family for a journey into the 1890s at the Ohio Village. A re-creation of Juneteenth celebrations from that era brings history to life with storytelling performances, period dance reenactments, traditional crafts—including tissue-paper florals—and a ceremonial “freedom bell” ringing Admission is free, but registration is advised for full access to the village and museum exhibits.

When: Noon–6 p.m.
Where: Historic Mt. Vernon Avenue (Bronzeville neighborhood)
A cornerstone of local Juneteenth festivities, “Juneteenth on the Ave” celebrates community and entrepreneurship in Bronzeville. The block party atmosphere includes live performances, art exhibits, spoken word, dance showcases, health and wellness booths, and support for Black-owned businesses . Free and family-friendly, it’s a cultural immersion and celebration rolled into one.
Weekend Anchor — 28th Annual Juneteenth Ohio Festival
When: Saturday–Sunday, June 21–22
Where: Genoa Park, 303 W. Broad St.
Downtown’s signature Juneteenth event returns for its 28th year with a weekend packed with music (including rock, reggae, gospel, and hip-hop), food, family activities, career expos, and community booths . Free admission through early afternoon keeps it accessible, with festivities continuing into early evening.
