Ohio Firm to Recognize the History and Contributions of Black Principal Brokers in Central Ohio Real Estate
Columbus, Ohio – As Take a Look Real Estate Brokers celebrates its 10th year of business, the growing brokerage will honor the African American Brokerages that have contributed to the thriving Central Ohio market. Theresa Barron-Cray, Broker and leader of the “It’s Time to Own it” movement, affirms that the success of Take A Look stands on the shoulders of the black leadership who came before us.
The 1930s boasted thriving black communities in Columbus. The city’s Black Wallstreet included banks, restaurants, churches, hospitals, schools, and retailers. But the dismantling of such black communities across the nation made way for infrastructure and freeways that disenfranchised people of color. This left a void that required a different kind of leadership.
According to historical records, 1947 marked a pivotal year in Ohio real estate, when Lelia I. Francis became the first black Realtor in Ohio, and only the second in the country. The Civil Rights movement led black agents to fight for such inclusions as the rights to buy homes on the market, to enter homes they were listing, and even membership into the National Associations of Realtors. Since then, black brokerages and agent licensees have contributed significantly to the Central Ohio real estate market and to the reimagining of African American community economics.
The Take a Look Real Estate Brokers anniversary celebration will highlight landmark occasions and milestones and honor the leadership of Black Owned Principal Brokers who continue to blaze trails and set standards of community excellence today.
Esteemed Honorees include Broker Henry and Mrs. Theresa Bland of H.C. Bland Realty, Broker Art Lee and the late Mrs. Roberta Lee of Art Lee Realty, Broker Rosetta Hayes-Borders of Tri-County 1st Choice Realty, Broker Antonio Reese of Reese Realty Group, Broker Vanessa Sutton of Affordable Real Estate, Broker Daryl Isabel of Premiere Select Real Estate, Broker Donald Payne, Sr. of Vision Realty.
The celebration will also include a presentation highlighting the history of black brokerages and historic African American neighborhoods in Ohio, and a silent auction with proceeds to benefit our agency’s mission of increasing wealth in our community through financial literacy, mental wellness awareness and addressing the devastating effects of the opioid crisis in Ohio.
Take A Look Real Estate Brokers’ 10th Anniversary Celebration, “A Night to Remember” will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Smith and Wollensky from 6 pm to 10 pm.
