Breaking the Cycle: Why Black-Owned Businesses Must Invest in Black-Owned TV

UTS Staff April 3, 2025

For decades, Black-owned businesses and corporations have been absent from television advertising—not because we don’t have the resources, but because we have never been fully invited into the space as owners, only as consumers.

Why Don’t We Advertise on TV?
???? Lack of Representation – Black businesses are rarely featured in mainstream advertising, and most networks don’t prioritize our inclusion.
???? The Myth of High Costs – Many Black-owned businesses believe that TV advertising is only for corporate giants with million-dollar budgets.
???? No Black-Owned TV Platforms to Support – Outside of a few networks, there have been limited opportunities to advertise with Black-owned broadcast, cable, or streaming networks.
???? Reliance on Social Media & Word-of-Mouth – Black businesses have focused on social media marketing, overlooking the power of television as a tool for visibility and brand credibility.

Why This Has to Change
TV Is Still King – While digital marketing is powerful, television remains the #1 platform for mass visibility and brand authority.
Black Buying Power is $1.6 Trillion – Yet, we are not investing in advertising our own products and services at the same scale as other communities.
We Are Being Left Out of the National Conversation – When we don’t advertise on TV, our businesses remain invisible to mainstream audiences, potential investors, and national consumers.

UTS TV is Changing the Game
A Black-Owned TV Network, Built for Us, By Us – UTS TV is a broadcast and streaming television network that provides FREE access to Black-owned media.

A Platform for Black Businesses to Be Seen – We are creating advertising and sponsorship opportunities for local and national Black businesses to be featured on TV without the massive corporate buy-in required on mainstream networks.

A Media Movement, Not Just a Network – This is bigger than advertising; it’s about changing the narrative and reclaiming our place as media owners and economic leaders.

What You Can Do to Help Us Change This
✔️ Advertise on UTS TV – If you own a business, it’s time to put your brand on television. UTS TV makes TV advertising affordable and accessible for Black-owned businesses.
✔️ Become a National or Local Sponsor – Major Black-owned corporations, franchises, and community investors can sponsor UTS TV at the local and national levels, ensuring FREE Black television stays in our communities.
✔️ Support the UTS TV Movement – Spread the word, encourage other Black businesses to advertise, and help us create a self-sustaining Black media ecosystem.

The Time is Now. Join the UTS TV Movement.
